TOURIST POLICE MAIN OBJECTIVES, ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
• Assist the
government in tourism strategies and objectives.
• Establish
cooperation among public and private tourism-related agencies.
• Coordinate with
domestic and international police agencies or law enforcement units.
• Liaise with
international safety and security bodies.
• Enforce law and
legislation in tourist regions.
• Provide and
disseminate information to visitors.
• Encourage tourists
to make informed decisions at destinations.
• Ensure that
visitors are not victimized or cheated during their stay in the destination.
• Guarantee the
safety and well-being of both local residents and foreign visitors.
• Protect tourists
from terrorism attacks and other safety hazards.
• Eliminate and
investigate sex-related crimes.
• Support visitors
involved in incidents, theft or destruction of essential documents.
• Reduce and
prosecute crimes involving visitors from home and abroad.
• Discourage visitors
from participating in any illegal acts.
• Caution, arrest and
prosecute visitors for illegal activities and crimes.
• Secure
transportation hubs such as airports, ports and railway stations.
• Support immigration
ofcers and border controls.
• Assist biosecurity
ofcers to prevent import of agricultural and horticultural produce, and
examine incoming and outgoing animals, plants, food and
machinery.
• Reduce demand for
illicit goods and services linked to transnational organized crime.
• Eradicate
trafcking in ancient and cultural artefacts,
wildlife, fauna and ora such as
ivory products, as well as counterfeit goods and illicit
drugs.
• Eliminate persons
trafcking and associated crimes such as prostitution.
• Regulate and stop
any unsavoury practices or fraud in the destination.
• Assist authorities
with health crises such as pandemics and other life-threatening
situations.
• Work with other
accident and emergency authorities during crises.
• Support authorities
in crises, accidents and emergencies involving tourists.
